Thanksgiving Blessings

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's the season of giving thanks. We have so much to be thankful for.

It is difficult to comprehend just how blessed we are in this country. Many of you know that we adopted a few years ago from Ukraine. Visiting the former Soviet Union was an eye opening experience. It dramatically demonstrated to me just how blessed I have been throughout my life; we have never been without food, heat, electricity, clothes or anything that we needed. We have always lived in abundance.

I want to take this moment to thank all our Doggie Nanny families who have boarded their little precious dogs with us over the years. Thank you for trusting us with your beloved pets. Thank you for letting us enjoy them while you were away. Thank you for your friendships!

We pray for God's blessing on you and your families this holiday season!

Here is a little video to enjoy of our guests from Nov 2007 to enjoy!

Long Island Dog Boarding -- TLC for small breed dogs with The Doggie Nanny

Looking back...Long Island Small Dog Boarding
with The Doggie Nanny

I thought it would be a good time to post on somethings that happened over the years.

In 2010 I became a foster mom for Yorkie Rescue 911. So far we helped in the adoptions of 8 beautiful little dogs. It was wonderful to be part of the process of helping these little dogs find new homes-- helping them regain their confidence after finding themselves in unfamiliar surroundings and later introducing them to their new families. If you are thinking about adding a new little dog to your family, please consider adopting from Yorkie Rescue 911. Visit the site to see the available dogs. The list is updated frequently. You might also consider becoming a foster family for one of these precious little pets. I guarantee you will find it very rewarding.

In 2011 we fostered a senior dog that has been named Van Gogh by Rescue911-- a perfect name for this little guy as was found with one crumpled up  ear on the streets of Brookhaven.

I was wondering if we could find this old little man a nice home where he can enjoy the rest of his life when a miracle happened!  Watch the video about Van Gogh and his incredible story!

RECENT EVENTS

As an Art Driector/Graphic Designer I have always had an interest in photography.  Over the past year, I expanded my equipment and have been working on flash photography.  I have done still life food photography for several years now for a local bakery, but this year I did my first out-of-house photo shoot using a professional flash set up.

December 2013 I was the photographer at a Christmas photo shoot at Petsmart for Yorkie 911 Rescue--complete with Santa. Their regular photographer was not available so I had the opportunity to fill in. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, so we didn't have the hoped for turnout. But still, we got some very nice dogs and pet parents to sit for us.  Here is a sample of some of the photos.

If you are having a pet event and need a photographer--give me a call!

Video Collections | How to Groom a Yorkie | Dog Grooming Tips

Recently, I have had some problems bring my Yorkies to groomers. It's not that I don't like my groomers, actually I love them, but my little dogs have had some issues, and I am not sure if it might have happened when they were getting a haircut.

First, my little one got a scratched cornea that couldn't heal. I first noticed her squinting after a trip to the groomer.  Did it happen there?  I really can't say.  After many trips to the Vet, I finally had to have her see a specialist and they she went through a procedure under anesthesia for her eye to recover.

Stevie - One of my all time favorite little dogs!

Tonight I put together a little video of one of my favorite little doggies. His name was Stevie and he had an extended stay with me as his mom settled into her new home in St. Martin. He was a special dog, a Scottish Terrier who seemed to look into my eyes and read my mind. My boys and I fell in love with him.

Eventually, the day came for him to return to his Mommy. I delivered Stevie to her hotel. Below you will see my videos of Stevie at our home, and his return to his Mommy. I hated to see him go!

The Joys of a Little Dog- loving a miniature doggie

How much joy can a 4 pound dog bring to your life?

My answer: How can you even begin to measure the love and joy that a tiny companion brings to your home and family?

My little joy is named Kumpa. Perhaps a strange name to an American ear. It is actually a traditional Norwegian potato dish that looks like a baseball sized dumpling, (an acquired taste for some). But she is my dumpling, delicious to hold, she brings a smile to anyone around her, especially when she is dressed up in one of her fancy harness dresses. You just cannot ignore her!

Here is a little video of her teasing my parent's dog during a previous visit.
