GROOMING YOUR DOG AT HOME

How To Groom Your Dog At Home?

Have you watched how your dog rolls on the ground or licks it coat? You may also have noticed it licking its paws and running in circles after its tail! These antics that seem so funny to the owners are in fact, your dog’s way of grooming itself. Help it in its endeavor to look good by following the home grooming tips for your dog.

1.              Brushing The Coat – You need a suitable coat brush so that the dirt and tangles can be removed from the dog’s hair. Brushing also ensures that the natural oils spread evenly throughout his coat. When you are brushing his coat, check for fleas. Different kinds of dogs need different brushes. For example, shorthaired dogs need a slick brush for removing tangles, a Chihuahua will need to be brushed with a rubber brush or a dog with long hair will need to be brushed everyday with a slick brush. After brushing his coat and removing the tangles, use a bristle brush to remove dead hair and then comb the tail.
2.              Eye Maintenance – The boogers that get deposited around the eyes have to be cleaned. To do so, pull it gently. Use “tear stains” that are specially manufactured for this purpose. Ensure that the eyes are clear and that there is no discharge. You can take the dog to the vet to get the hair around the eyes cut.
3.              Cleaning Ears – Clean your dog’s ears only when needed. Saturate a cotton ball with a warm solution, specifically meant for cleaning ears, and gently wipe away excess wax and dirt. A
4.              Cleaning Teeth – Dogs do not like their teeth to be cleansed and have to be coaxed into it. Get a pet toothbrush and clean its teeth gently. Use toothpastes that are meant for pets.
5.              Clipping Nails – Your dog must be used to your touching its paws and nails. Spread its feet gently to check for flea and dirt. When it is used to your handling its paws, clip nails gently with sharp clippers. You can buy good clippers from a pet dog supplies store. Smooth out the rough edges so that it may not hurt itself.

Grooming time should be fun for both you and your pet. Give it a treats every time you groom it. Also praise your canine in loving tones that it recognizes and lets you groom it. Use only special products that are meant for your pets.
