On Regis and Kelly - Friends of Long Island Dog Boarding
Tomorrow I am going into NYC with my friends Rick Caran and Jilli Dog. They are taping a segment on the Regis and Kelly Show-- Bette Midler will be the guest host. I will be taking photos for them of their appearance on the show. I don't know if I will be allowed to take photos in the studio... but I will do my best to document the experience.
The segment will air Friday, July 31.
Check out their website which I designed. Jilli Dog has the distinction as being known as the "World's Only Poker Playing Dog.

Check out the video page listing the many videos featuring the special talents of Rick and Jilli. Also, be sure to play the interactive HeartGuard game-- starring Jilli Dog.

One of todays little guests
Here is one of our little guests in our house today-- on the couch with Skjegg, enjoying a bone.
Her name is Foxy. A real little cuddle bug. She just snuggles into me when I pick her up. She has been playing with the other little guests and fits in our current little pack.

Missing Stevie... one of our favorite little dogs
I finally put together a short video of my last day with Stevie the Scottish Terrier. He had an extended stay with us as his Mom was arranging a move out of the country. I fell absolutely in love with him. He was one of those dogs that seem to connect with your soul. He looked right into my eyes and into my heart. He was about 4 months old at the time. Not yet neutered. He had a calm, sweet personality-- the kind of dog you hope your puppy will turn into. I think you see what I am talking about in this short video. Send me a comment if you like it! Bird House Frog!
This has nothing to do with dogs... but while we vacationed at my parents house in North Carolina, we made a strange discovery. A small frog has taken up residence in one of their bird houses. I had to make a video of this little guy. Who would believe it otherwise?

Home from vacation & leaving a friend behind
I came across this post this evening from a few years back that I wrote but never posted...the story still holds true.
Well, it is back to normal life... And it's a good life!
We returned from a 10 day visit with family in North Carolina. We took our two boys and two yorkies ( Kumpa and Skjegg) with us to Grandma's house. Her dog Bailey LOVED having canine companion to share his home and join for walks. (See photo of Bailey as a baby)
Bailey, who usually refuses to walk more than a half a block, walked the entire loop with me in my parent's development-- as long as he had the company of his two furry friends. Normally Bailey is not fond of walking in the North Carolina heat. He usually signals that his walk is over by laying down on the sidewalk-- not a hind leg sit down but a full body laying on the concrete kind of lay down. He is simply done and will not take one step more. My mother usually has to carry him back home. During our visit however, Bailey had at least two full walks through the development every day and shorter walks near home.
Excited to have company, he led the way-- periodically looking back to make sure that Kumpie and Skjegg were following close behind. On day 10 it was time to go home. We packed up the van, boys, toys, dogs, clothes, etc. and drove the 10 hours to Long Island. I spoke with Mom the next day. Bailey was in a deep depression. No walking, no way. He just threw himself to the floor and lay there.
My mother felt guilty leaving him to go to a family function that day. Her baby boy was lonely and missing his furry friends. While many of us are guilty of projecting human emotions and thoughts on our little dogs, it does seem evident that they do revel in the company of their own kind. And who can blame them? Don't we feel the same way?
If you need a place for your dog to stay while you are away, please consider Long Island Small Dog Boarding With The Doggie Nanny. We provide loving care for small breed dogs in a private home environment. TLC for little doggies, minis, toys and teacups!

Stevie - One of my all time favorite little dogs!
Tonight I put together a little video of one of my favorite little doggies. His name was Stevie and he had an extended stay with me as his mom settled into her new home in St. Martin. He was a special dog, a Scottish Terrier who seemed to look into my eyes and read my mind. My boys and I fell in love with him.
Eventually, the day came for him to return to his Mommy. I delivered Stevie to her hotel. Below you will see my videos of Stevie at our home, and his return to his Mommy. I hated to see him go!

The Joys of a Little Dog- loving a miniature doggie
How much joy can a 4 pound dog bring to your life?
My answer: How can you even begin to measure the love and joy that a tiny companion brings to your home and family?
My little joy is named Kumpa. Perhaps a strange name to an American ear. It is actually a traditional Norwegian potato dish that looks like a baseball sized dumpling, (an acquired taste for some). But she is my dumpling, delicious to hold, she brings a smile to anyone around her, especially when she is dressed up in one of her fancy harness dresses. You just cannot ignore her!
Here is a little video of her teasing my parent's dog during a previous visit.

If you have a small dog, you know how precious they are, how much they depend on human contact and how stressed they would be if placed at a kennel or Pet Hotel in a cage or what I would call a the equivalent to a large glass aquarium.
